Why Filipino doesn't like to play much football?

What is your favorite sports?

Football? Weeeh di nga..

I was looking for answer and some research about why Filipino
don't want  to play much and not that much interested in football.

In fact, if you  compare this game in basketball, height doesn't matter.
Lionel Messi (5.54ft), Christian Ronaldo (6.1ft), Ronaldhino (5.7ft), Beckham, they  are world most popular football player.

What about Lebron James (6.61ft)  and Kobe (6.4ft)? You know that they are new generation replica of Michael Jordan.

If you compare this both sports, you need both stamina and speed. I
have'nt read an article that you need more stamina in football rather
than basketball because of the size of the court. I have'nt read an
article that you need more speed in basketball than football. As for me,
they are both great.

Did you watch the movie Shaolin Soccer? haha, it was funny and
hilarious. I bet some football player seen this movie, this inspired them
and wish to strike this unstoppable free kick even Hulk is standing there in goal.

But it  just a fantasy and imagination.

The real one is hard and tough. Dreaming to pass and jump inside of Football International Academy is real one. Academy will  train you to be a professional football player and someday to be a star signing a million dollar contract. Wow.. But oopps, rewind again... to  be a star signing thousand dollars contract... Wow for some lucky.

Well as you can see, its like same pattern of training and signing contract in basketball. PBA is popular, once you get there.. contract is for sure,  of course its million. That is the reality of this both sports.. you are  signing a contract with highest offer. Easy money in hard court.

Do you have an idea why Filipino doesn't like much more football?

I think there is no money bet in football, or we are not born interested in football culture. That is why is not interesting. Even those selling "taho" will  not watch football. Because they are waiting for his bet like "Ending" or ending score, if you are lucky.. at the end of the day, you can win instant cash or spare meat  and bring to home. And now start loving this sports. You know its like "nakasanayan" for fun in sports and betting.

Second reason, target audience and fans.
I've heard this so many times, "Tara nood tayo ng Football? Weeeh di
nga.. Ano ka half alien half pinoy?" Pang Fil-Am lang yun.. Yun nga eh, maraming Phil-Am kaya manood tayo."

Sometimes people staring those guys carrying soccer ball start performing cool tricks, hip fake, scissor, bicycle kick, puskas move, marseille, blanco move. People stop & staring because we don't have an idea what  move they are doin looks crazy, but if you feel it looks interesting, not into "yabang" thing. Contrary mostly people admiring those guys playing basketball, because  we already know which move they are doin like drible, crossover, slam  dunk and excitement of buzzer beaters. Probably you will say that you feel much "pogi points kapag naka jersey ka with new nike shoes." It results you more fans and more viewers specially those PBA stars.

Why Filipino much more admiring basketball? I don't know yet the answer but might be involve our culture since we are young. "Sa ordinaryo tao na naglalaro dati ng basketball, parang nakakahiya  humawak ng bola ng soccer sa kesa sa bola ng basketball."Parang you feel alone and disconnected sa lahat. You want the truth, subukan mo maglaro ng football."

What I feel about this, we don't much much star in football no other than Younghusband & Caligdong. We don't have Football Academy. We don't have tough training. That is why no one is interested. We don't have a pure Filipino breed that loves football in their heart since they are young. We don't have a man statue of inspiration. We don't have more advertisement for football to guide our kids to be star player someday.

Third reason, fiesta, church, and school sports activities.
Obviously when there is upcoming fiesta in town. Basketball League, it  will start in Inter-Barangay and Inter-Town. All families & kids are very excited to watch their own team. This tournament is unstoppable, I bet you even local officials are involved.

Basketball is primary sports in public & private school.  I hope they will continue and start introducing playing football to our kids and encourage to football academy. Might be one day, we can join the football world cup. "Weehh.. di nga..?  Malay mo... Kun di tayo pumasuk sa basketball Asian cup, kahit man lang sa Asian world cup." China palang supalpal na tayo sa height pero pilit pa rin tayo sa Basketball... Update for FIBA Asian Cup 2014: Gilas vs China, Philippines win this game.

The truth is we don't have enough space and finance to build small football field to start with. How can we have a newly breed pure Filipino football team if we don't start in school and barangay? Why not build half court of basketball and half court of football? Does it make sense? Give them a ball let them play what they love, because this kids was inspired and doin by heart.

That's why we Filipinos love Basketball, since you were born.. The time you open your baby eyes and start looking  around, you start looking your "kuya" making halfcourt on your backyard and start shooting the ball and you pick up the ball and you start doin it. It is because they learn it from school. Now you when grow up you can feel the real game inside the hardcourt and it connects you everywhere. Why not also introduce them a football?

Imagine also other side of the world like Europe, Middle East, Germany and Africa same thing happens, but it is game inside the football court. You can feel also adrenalin which are all family are involve and always connected.

You know truly matters? Whatever sports in your heart, no, it can't be changed instantly. You know why? because we love it. We do what we love. And there might be a bigger chances of success waiting for us in football or any sports you like.
